A must-read for those with dry or sensitive skin! A thorough explanation of the ingredients in DF Moisturizing Mist (preservatives and fragrances)

In order to help everyone understand the ingredients in our lotion, we have taken the time to explain all of the ingredients.

This blog explains the "additives and fragrances" listed at the bottom of the ingredient list.

For an explanation of ingredients that are used in higher concentrations than these, please read the blog link below.

A must-see for those with sensitive skin! A complete explanation of the ingredients in DF Moisturizing Mist!

As you know, preservatives and other additives are not used for cosmetic purposes, but are included to ensure safety. They have antibacterial properties and suppress the growth of various bacteria, but they can also be harmful to the skin.

For those with dry or sensitive skin, or those prone to skin irritation, these additives can sometimes be irritating, and some ingredients can be allergens (allergens).

DF Moisturizing Mist is made with ingredients that are as non-irritating and non-allergenic as possible (however, as it is a cosmetic product, we cannot guarantee that it will be completely irritating).

We aim to create a formula similar to that of a lotion for dry and sensitive skin.

Types of additives in lotions (listed in order of ingredients)

PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil

This non-ionic surfactant and solubilizer is made by adding hydrogen to castor oil extracted from the seeds of the castor bean plant, making it less susceptible to oxidation. It is also gentle on the skin and eyes, making it suitable for use on sensitive skin. It is easily soluble in water, so it helps disperse the main ingredients in water.

Hydrogenated lecithin (derived from soybeans)

This surfactant and emulsifier is made by hydrogenating lipids extracted from soybeans. It aids penetration, maintains moisture in the stratum corneum, and protects the skin, and is a non-irritating ingredient.

Citric acid / Sodium citrate

As a pH adjuster, it keeps the entire product at a slightly acidic pH (approximately pH 5.8) that is gentle on the skin.

Citric acid is sour and irritating, but adding sodium citrate reduces the irritation and keeps the pH of the lotion slightly acidic. When applied to the skin, it also returns the pH of the skin surface, which has become alkaline after washing, so the pH of lotion is very important.

Sodium levulinate (derived from sugarcane)

This is a preservative obtained from sugarcane starch. It is a low-toxicity preservative with moderately high antibacterial activity against bacteria (gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria) and fungi (molds and yeasts).

Sodium anisate (derived from star anise)

It is a water-soluble preservative aid with high antibacterial properties, mainly against mold, and low toxicity. When used in combination with sodium levulinate, its preservative effect is enhanced.

The two preservatives can be said to be relatively mild, as there have been no reported cases of skin irritation, eye irritation, allergy, phototoxicity, or photosensitivity.

All additives are derived from plants (with some synthetics), and the formula is designed for use on dry and sensitive skin. Although we cannot guarantee that it will not cause irritation, we do not use synthetic or petroleum-derived preservatives, etc., so that you can feel the moisturizing power without worry.

Fragrances in lotions (listed in order of ingredients)

Secondly, fragrances can be irritating to those with sensitive skin.

For cosmetics for sensitive skin, there is the option of fragrance-free products, but our cosmetics are based on the concept of "wellness," and as a brand we also want to value "healing customers through their sensory organs."

It is skin care that appeals to the senses of touch, smell, and sight through "texture, fragrance, and design." We value the functionality of cosmetics, but at the same time, we want cosmetics to "enrich people's lives."

So fragrance is essential for the brand, but to make it suitable for people with sensitive skin, we select essential oils and amounts that are less irritating, in accordance with the IFRA standard for fragrances used in cosmetics.

What is IFRA (International Fragrance Association)?

We have established international standards that define safe concentrations of fragrances and essential oils. The concentration of essential oils varies depending on:

🔍 Essential oil blending ratio (guideline) based on IFRA standards

IFRA defines the maximum concentration that can be safely used for each essential oil by product category. Below are general guidelines for the concentration in skin care products (lotions, emulsions, etc.).

Essential oil name

IFRA recommended maximum content (facial products)

geranium oil

Approximately 0.5-1.0%

Sandalwood oil

Approximately 0.5-2.0%

lavender oil

Approximately 0.5-1.5%

Tea tree oil

Approximately 0.5-1.0%

Lemongrass oil

Approximately 0.1-0.5% (highly irritating)

Bergamot oil (furocoumarin-free)

Approximately 0.4-1.0%

DF Moisturizing Mist Fragrance

Pelargonium oil (geranium oil, from China)

This essential oil imparts a deep, forest-like scent. Formulated in accordance with IFRA standards.

Sandalwood oil (from India)

This calming wood-based fragrance is also IFRA compliant and safely formulated.

Average content in safe lotions

Many natural and organic skin care products consider the balance between safety and fragrance:

  • It is common to limit the amount of essential oils to around 0.1 to 0.5%.

  • Set to less than 0.1% for products for sensitive skin

The essential oil content of both DF Moisturizing Mists is 0.1% .

It has a gentle fragrance and is formulated in a quantity that is low in irritation and allergy-inducing properties.

In particular, the components of geranium fragrance are known to pose a risk of contact allergies .

Components and content of geranium oil

The composition of geranium oil varies depending on the plant's origin and extraction method, but the general composition is as follows:

Ingredient name

Content rate (estimate)

Geraniol

Approximately 10-30% (average approximately 20%)

Citronellol

Approximately 25-45%

Linalool, nerol, etc.

A few percent to less than 10%

Under EU cosmetics regulations and IFRA standards , geraniol is one of the allergens that must be labeled .

Applying essential oils directly to the skin or drinking them can cause allergies, so be careful regardless of whether you have dry or sensitive skin.
